What if families do not have wireless Internet access at home?
There are a limited number of free mobile wireless hotspots available for checkout in the library. Students are able to check out the devices and use them at home without charge. Students will not have access to streaming media such as YouTube with these mobile wireless hotspots. The duration of checkout is the same as a library book.
Subscription-based Internet service is available from providers in the area. If a family does not have internet access in their home for financial reasons, they can find out if they qualify by calling the ACP Support Center (877) 384-2575 or by visiting the dual language English/Spanish Wisconsin Public Service Commission ACP Benefit Page. The Affordable Connectivity Program provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward internet service for eligible households. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
If a family chooses to not have wireless internet in the home, there are also a variety of options for access to free wifi. The Wisconsin Public Wi-Fi Locations Map Website is a mapping tool that displays public WiFi locations that have been self-reported by entities and individuals to the Public Service Commission and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The map displays hundreds of locations where students can go to use WiFi with new locations being added as they become available. Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to investigate any free wifi location to ensure their children will be welcome and safe at the location. Nicolet High School has no control over locations identified below.
