On July 27, the Nicolet School Board voted to start the school year in the Phase I: Remote Learning Model. In late December, The Nicolet School Board reviewed and discussed parent and staff feedback, internal health metrics and feedback from the North Shore Health Department and voted to transition to in-person learning with a remote option for the second semester starting January 28, 2021.
Please see brief descriptions of each learning model below, as well as its respective landing page.
Guiding Metrics for Transitioning Between Learning Models
Administrators will work closely with the North Shore Health Department to monitor public health statistics and indicators for the transition between phases. These metrics may include, but are not limited to:
- The seven day rolling average of percentage of positive cases in our community;
- The number of positive COVID-19 cases in area districts with blended and face to face models;
- Adequate staffing; and
- The number of positive cases for students and staff.
The school board will receive regular updates from the superintendent regarding the indicators and any relevant information from the North Shore Health Department. Please be sure to regularly check for Skyward messages and updates to the Return to School page. Watch this video from Superintendent Dr. Kabara to learn more about the return to school metrics.
Remote Model
In this model, students have set learning expectations and regular daily attendance, grades, work and assessments, tracked with various platforms and protocols implemented by the Nicolet Administration and Staff. All classes have an expectation to engage in both synchronous (real-time, face to face) and asynchronous (recorded or self-paced) learning activities.
Our students began the 2020-2021 school year engaged in remote-learning.
In-Person Learning with Remote Option
In late November, families were asked to select their child(ren)’s second semester learning preference. Students that opted for in-person learning will attend the Nicolet campus on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will be a remote learning day for all students.
The Nicolet School Board reviewed and discussed parent and staff feedback, internal health metrics and feedback from the North Shore Health Department and voted to transition to in-person learning with a remote option for the second semester starting January 28, 2021.
In-Person Model
When health and safety allow, Nicolet will move into a model where all students are able to spend their time in the school building. While this model reflects a “traditional learning environment,” the administration will continue to place a strong emphasis on enhanced cleaning protocols, adjustments on how students enter and exit buildings, management of lunch services, and more. Additionally, students and families will still be able to continue learning in a remote setting based on their comfort level.
